Timothy T. Soncrant, M.D.
Founder and Scientific Director

A medical scientist, a practicing board-certified internist, and the founder and Scientific Director of the David Drew Clinic, Dr. Soncrant began what has become a lifelong quest for knowledge as a neurobiology major at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With a B.S in Life Sciences in hand, he began initial work toward his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Boston University School of Medicine in 1977. In 1982, he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and immediately began a relationship with the National Institutes of Health with his acceptance of a post-doctoral fellowship at its National Institute on Aging.

While at NIH Dr. Soncrant founded the National Institute on Aging’s Clinical Treatment Program and continues to serve as a collaborator. Throughout his career, his passion for medical research has never ceased. Today he is internationally recognized for his research into diseases of aging, their diagnosis and cure. With more than 70 papers on age-related diseases and the field of aging to his credit, his work has been published in many of the world’s most respected peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Soncrant and several of his colleagues have received patents for products that are used for the treatment of primary and metastatic tumors of the lymphatic system and for breast and ovarian cancers, cognitive enhancers in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, and inhibitors for the treatment and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Dr. Soncrant’s medical colleagues, medical students and also the public want to hear what he has to say. He has been invited to present his research at scientific meetings throughout the U.S. and all over the world. His public lectures on aging and dementia have been well-attended and received on several radio stations and at the University of Maryland, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Fleet Reserve Association, and the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Continuing Education Program to mention just a few.

Dr. Soncrant is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Fraternity, the American College of Physicians, and the Society for Neuroscience. He is married, has two sons – David and Drew – and lives in Silver Spring, MD.



Jeffrey A. Elting, M.D., M.P.H., M.S.
Clinical Director

Dr. Elting has over 20 years of executive healthcare experience. The exclusive practice that he currently maintains with The David Drew Clinic focuses on the delivery of presidential quality health care with an emphasis on high-technology preventive medicine. He also serves as the bioterrorism preparedness and life safety advisor for the 18 hospitals in the nation’s capital.

In 1994, Dr. Elting began his service as White House Physician, providing healthcare and medical consultative services for the President, Vice President, their families, and the White House staff on the White House complex and during travel to 40 countries. He was also responsible for assessing Presidential health security risks and for coordinating worldwide medical contingency plans in support of Presidential travel and other White House operations. He subsequently maintained a part-time clinical practice at the White House through 2002.

Additionally, from 1999 to 2002, Dr. Elting was the Senior Medical Officer for the National Capital Region Office of the U.S. Army Surgeon General, where he coordinated the consulting activities of a staff of 30 health care experts who developed the clinical policies for the Army health care system’s 28 hospitals. He also participated in the review of human trials and investigational new drug research. Additionally, he was actively involved in the response to the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon. Previously, Dr. Elting also served as the Medical Director of the premier Department of Defense Health/Fitness Program, providing health promotion services for senior U.S. military, international, and corporate leaders.

Prior to his White House service, Dr. Elting was the Chief of Primary Care for a health care system with 60,000 beneficiaries and 275,000 outpatient visits per year. Additionally, he served as the Assistant Division Surgeon for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during the Persian Gulf War. During combat operations in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, he delivered frontline medical care and provided military leaders with medical advice on the use of prophylactic medications and vaccinations against chemical and biological warfare agents. He has held Top Secret and White House security clearances and he has been awarded the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal.

Dr. Elting’s academic background includes service as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine and faculty experience with a medical residency-training program. He is also a regular guest lecturer at Georgetown University and the National Defense University. He frequently provides written and television medical commentary for the local and national media.

Dr. Elting is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy (West Point, New York). He received his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he was selected for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He is also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, where he co-authored a healthcare industry study. Dr. Elting is married, has three daughters, and lives in the District of Columbia.
